3 Popular Diet Trends of 2021
It seems every year has it's own diet trends. In years past we've seen things like the South Beach Diet and the Atkins Diet.
The New Year has come and many people's New Years resolutions to workout and eat right in 2021 have already fallen by the wayside. However with Spring just around the corner people are once again thinking about getting in shape, working out, and eating right to get ready for swimsuit weather and hitting the beaches this Summer.
So in today's post we're going to be exploring 3 popular Diet Trends of 2021 that you may want to explore to get beach body ready. And if you find you need a bit of extra help, you can also checkout our Top 10 Fat Burners of 2021.
1. The Ketogenic (KETO) Diet

The Ketogenic or KETO diet was a popular one last year in 2020, but it seems the trend will continue through 2021 as well.
The Keto Diet involves drastically reducing your intake of carbohydrates and replacing those carbs with fats. This forces the body into a state of "ketosis". Ketosis is when you burn fat instead of carbohydrates.
This notoriously restrictive diet requires you to not only reduce your intake of unhealthy carbs like sugar, but also those other carbs which are traditionally considered healthy, like fruits and certain vegetables.
While the Keto Diet does have a cult following and many people who praise the diet and it's benefits, many dieticians and nutritionists don't recommend it for weight loss.
Kelly Hogan, a registered dietitian and clinical nutrition and wellness manager at the Mount Sinai Dubin Breast center said of the Keto Diet... "It's not typically something that can be sustainable over time.". She went on to say that "any diet that's going to set forth rules and severely restrict food intake is going to create a fear around certain foods. In this case that food category is carbohydrates. Any type of diet like this gives me pause because it can promote disordered eating and an unhealthy relationship with food."
And Kelly may be onto something in terms of the sustainability of this diet. The Keto Diet has also spurred the "Lazy Keto Diet" and/or the "Dirty Keto Diet" which is essentially people eating burgers and fast food, just without the bun, so it does seem that many people struggle to follow the Keto Diet.
None the less the Keto Diet looks to continue to be one of the hottest diet trends in 2021.
2. The Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet is exactly what it sounds like, the diet of someone from the Mediterranean. This diet is clean healthy natural foods. It's known as a heart healthy diet, and is also more well rounded, and for most, probably easier to follow and adhere to than the keto diet.
The mediterranean diet incorporates fruits, vegetables, fish, and whole grains. It limits unhealthy fats. Research has shown that the mediterranean diet reduces the risk of heart disease. It's also associated with a reduced incidence of cancer, and Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
This diet in a nutshell emphasizes...
- Eating primarly plant based foods such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes, and nuts.
- Replacing utter with healhty fats such as olive oil.
- Using herbs and spices in place of salt.
- Limiting red meat.
- Eating lots of fish and poultry.
- Drinking red wine in moderation (optional)
- Getting plenty of excercise.
The mediterranean diet is a tasty and healthy way to eat. Most people have an easier time adapting to the mediterranean diet than the keto diet as it's much less restrictive. And many people who switch to this style of eating say they'll never eat any other way again.
3. The Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet is also been one popular in years past. It's also spurred some offshoots like the Pegan Diet, which is essentially the Paleo Diet for Vegans. The paleo diet is also one many find it easier to stick with than the keto diet as it's more well rounded and less restrictive.
The Paleo diet is a dietary plan based on foods similar to what might have been eaten during the Paleolithic era. It includes lean meats, fish, fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds; foods that could be sourced through hunting and gathering. The Paleo diet also limits foods which became common when farming emerged about 10,000 years ago. These foods include dairy products, legumes, and grains.
The Paleo Diet is also sometimes referred to as the Paleolithic Diet, the Stone Age Diet, the Hunter Gatherer Diet, and the Caveman Diet. The paleo diet is a way to return to a way of eating that's more like what early humans ate. You may enjoy the paleo diet if you want to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, or if you're looking for help planning meals.
