Smart Sweets Sweet Chews Candy Review

If you haven't heard of or tried Smart Sweets, let me tell you, you're missing out. Smart Sweets have become a favorite here around the office. While I won't mention any names... Jenny and Carley... some people around here wind up going through a couple bags per day.

Smart Sweets are an innovative new "candy" founded by 22 year old Tara Bosch, and they've quickly become one of the hottest new functional foods on the market. Smart Sweets are a healthier alternative to traditional candies containing 92% less sugar, and 50% less calories than traditional candies. They also pack a good amount of fiber and contain upwards of 80% of your daily needed fiber. 

When Smart Sweets initially rolled out they came in a couple different varieties, Peach Rings, Fruity Gummy Bears, Sour Gummy Bears, and by far the favorite around here, Sweet Fish, which is Smart Sweets take on the classic Swedish Fish Candies. I actually think I may like Smart Sweets Swedish Fish over the originals.

The newest and most anticipated member to the Smart Sweets family is the Smart Sweets Sweet Chews, which are the brands take on Starburst. Sweet Chews are individually wrapped and come in an assorted bag containing flavors like Watermelon, Mango, and Strawberry. The entire bag contains only 120 calories, 3 grams of sugar, while packing 10 grams of Fiber. Compare that to a traditional Starburst which for a comparable serving has 150 calories, a whopping 28 grams of sugar, and no fiber.

I know what you're wondering though, how do they taste? Okay, so they are good, but to be completely honest I wasn't overly impressed. As far as the texture goes, Smart Sweets Sweet Chews have a texture more like a fruit snack than a Starburst. That's not necessarily a good or bad thing, just pointing it out.

As far as the flavor, I like the flavor options they selected, Watermelon, Mango, and Strawberry are probably three of my favorite flavors. The taste wasn't overly Sweet like a Starburst, but packed a good amount of sweetness and flavor. 

Overall these are a tasty and healthy alternative to traditional sugar filled candies. It's a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth, while getting your daily dose of fiber, and without consuming a ton of sugar or calories. While I would highly suggest checking these out, if I'm stuck on a desert island and can only bring one type of Smart Sweets with me, I'm bringing the Sweet Fish.
