Cholrophyll Water | Is It Worth It?

Chlorophyll Water has been trending all over TikTok and now people are questioning whether it is actually worth it. People all over TikTok have been claiming that chlorophyll water can detox your blood, clear up your acne and possibly prevent cancer. However, this chlorophyll water trend isn't technically chlorophyll, so is it even worth trying this trend?

What Is Chlorophylll?

Chlorphyll is a fat-soluble pigment found in plants and it give vegetables such as spinach and asparagus their green coloring. Plants use chlorophyll to carry out photosynthesis, converting sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into nutrition.

The center of chlorophyll's chemical structure a magnesium ion is present. Magnesium is important for optimal overall health and helps support blood pressure regulation, nerve and muscle function, and blood sugar control. Without magnesium, plants would not have their green color. You can get chlorophyll by eating vegetables like broccoli cabbage, parsley, collard greens, and other vegetables. In order to keep chlorophyll in tact, try not to overcook the vegetables that way they don't lose their bright green color.

What Is Chlorophyll Water Made Of?

You can't drink chlorophyll unless you blend up a greens smoothie, what is exactly is chlorophyll water? Cholorphyll water is a drink made of chlorophyllin. Chlorophyllin is a water soluble chemical used in supplements so the powder can be dissolved in water and be better absorbed by the body.

In order to make chlorphyllin, chlorophyll undergoes a process of removing the magnesium ion and replacing it with copper. Magnesium is highly reactive and can be easily displaced. Adding copper makes the compound more stable for supplement applications. Chlorophyll drops have that vibrant green because of the copper.

Is Drinking Chlorophyll Water Safe?

For most users, drinking chlorophyll water is safe. In rare matters, some users may experience diarrhea and stomach cramps. However, even though it is a safe drink, it is isn't something you need to take. Chlorophyll is abundant in green vegetables and fruits and eating more produce can help increase the amount of chlorophyll you intake, but you can also add vitamins, minerals, and antoxidants.

Is It Really Worth It To Drink Chlorophyll Water?

Honestly, it is not worth drinking chlorophyll water because chlorphyll has antioxidant properties, but they aren't as noticeable as other things like Vitamin C. Research also shows that chlorophyll only benefits the skin by topical application and not oral consumption. There is also no research showing that chlorophyll can help prevent cancer and no evidence that shows chlorophyll helps with body odor.

Overall, there is no reason for you to hop on this chlorophyll water trend because there is very little evidence proving the claims that are made online. Plus chlorophyll water is not in its most natural form that is found in vegetables and fruits. Magnesium deficiency is common, so you are better benefitted byeating whole foods with the magnesium intact rather than copper and salt which is what you would get from chlorophyllin.
